Step 1: Determine the weight of the loads to be moved

If you choose an electric tow tug with insufficient power or one that is too light for your load, there is a high chance you will not be able to move the load safely. An electric tug that is too large may be more difficult to manoeuvre in confined spaces and more expensive to purchase than necessary.
- Light loads (up to 2,000 kg): A compact electric tow tug is ideal: manoeuvrable, efficient and highly suitable for internal use. Think, for example, of retail, hospitals and small warehouses.
- Medium loads (2,000–8,000 kg): A medium-sized model with higher pulling power can easily be used for regular movements, like in warehouses or at airports.
- Heavy loads (8,000 kg+): You will need a large industrial electric tow tug with a robust construction and drive system.
Step 2: Identify the main application

Step 3: Take the battery’s operating time into account.
One of the most frequently asked questions about electric tugs is whether the battery will last for a full shift. The answer depends on the type of battery (lithium, AGM or lead-acid), its capacity and the intensity of use.
With light and occasional use, power consumption is lower than during continuous heavy-duty work. Therefore, do not just look at the peak capacity, but focus particularly on the electric tiller’s nominal performance under normal working conditions.
For tasks involving multiple shifts, it is best to choose models with a lithium battery. These can be quickly recharged in between shifts for optimal use of your V-move.
Tip: if your electric tug needs to run two or more shifts, opt for a model with a lithium battery that can be recharged in between to avoid interruptions to your work.
Step 4: Assess the working environment
The environment in which you intend to use your electric tug will determine which model is suitable. For example, the requirements for indoor and outdoor use differ considerably.
